Does anybody have any quick, easy, healthy and tasty recipes conducive to weight loss and healthy living?

I grew up cooking like a classic midwesterner and most of the recipes I know are fattening. At almost 40 now, it is catching up with me and I need advice on recipes, food ideas and/or some websites that you have tried/tested some recipes. I like all kinds of foods, just don’t know how to make the healthy ones. I usually cook for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children so kid friendly is a bonus!). I also would like to be able to pass down more healthy cooking/eating habits to my children so that none of us ends up like my grand parents and aunts & uncles (VERY obese). We have already dramatically cut back on the sodas and junk food, only have it on rare special occasions and don’t keep that stuff in the house. Thank you for your help!

Your thoughts on weight loss surgery on teenagers/children under 18?

At first I was definetly against this, I’m currently 20 years old and will need to have the lap band system as I may be looking at a transplant in 5 years – In cases like mine or where the person needs a transplant and is between 16-18 I think it is kind of ok – I mean yes it’s definetly major but it’s helping that person in the overall. But I look at things where some people are under 16 and I definetly think it’s wrong, in fact it should be illegal, 10 years ago you never heard about a 150lb 8 year old now it seems like it’s just common which is definetly wrong – I think that under 16 it should be illegal because your body has not even finished maturing at all and I know that if I was 14/15/16 and offered it I definetly wouldnt choose it. I think in America it’s become a bit of a joke as well – the fact that it is so easily accessible for people under 16 is ridiculous to think of. So what is your opinion? Do you think after the age of 16 it’s ok? Or should they wait til 18?
The mom I definetly agree with you – I’ve always been big and it has never been my eating habits, funnily enough I actually like vegetables and salad – I eat healthier than more – my problem is motivation with excercise, I agree with you on the plastic surgery part as well, thankfully I wasn’t teased as much when I was younger but I think if I had been I would have said yes when I was younger but when you look at teenagers that want smaller boobs or a smaller nose it definetly is unrealistic – I mean yes if they have something along the lines of a cleft plate or a severe deformity and they just want to be normal I am absolutely all for it – As for the parents I agree with you up to a certain point – I think at 13-14-15 you know what your eating so you definetly can’t blame it on the parents where as if there under that it is the parents responsibility to show the child what to eat, how much to eat and when to have certain things.

What do you know about ear stapling as a weight loss tool?

A girl here in the office said that it worked for her, but she is one of those people who could stand to gain a few pounds (imho). Anyone have any experience with these? -I’m not looking for a "magic weight loss bullet" but something to help that isn’t an addictive or otherwise harmful pill, mix, formula, etc. I have changed my eating habits and my exercise habits and the things I do for fun (like less TV). This was just suggested to me and I don’t know a lot about it, and was hoping someone out there had first hand experience.

How can I lose weight and eat healthy w/o going through an extreme a?

I am 23 years old and I have always been slim although everyone in my family is not obese but overweight. My mom was just like me and then she had me and my sis and she gained alot of weight for a long time.

Recently she has lost alot of weight and is back to her size before kids but I think its because she has taken up smoking cuz her diet isnt different and she doesnt seem to exercise.

I was always a size 0-2 but I always had curves and I knew I might gain weight. Now I am a size 4 and thats still thin but I notice my stomach has began to poke out a bit (not big but bigger than before) My hips have grown and while its not bad when I am naked I can notice the signifigant difference.

I find it hard to change my eating habits but I have never really likead alot of butter and I hate mayo so some fattening things have never been in my diet but I need a solution that wont kill me as I have never does strenuous workouts since I never really had to. Does anyone have any methods?

What is the best weight loss supplement/diet pill?

Assuming someone is eating healthy and exercising, what is the best diet pill to aid in weight loss?
As I said, I already do as much exercise as I can (long story) and actually eat below the recommended calories a day, and balanced meals. It’s not a case of lack of exercise or improper eating habits.

Are there any diet plans for picky eaters?

Choosing a diet is always hard for me because there are alot of foods I do and do not like. How can I still eat healthy even if I don’t like eating from all the necessary "requirements" for each food group.. like fruits?
I’ve tried cutting sweets, fast food and pop out of my normal eating habits but I am still not sure what I should and should not being eating daily.

can losing a significant amount of weight cause hair loss?

I’ve lost 32kg in the past 6 months after being overweight all my life…I excersise everyday…My eating habits have changed…I don’t eat as much or the same foods I used to…

I went to a dermatologist and he told me that the hair loss is due to weight loss but I’m not convinced…He said it’s something that is self correcting and will go back to normal hair growth when I’ve finished losing the weight…

One thing that is strange though is that the hair loss did start a couple of moths after i started to lose weight…

He said my hair loss doesn’t match that of normal male pattern hair loss because the hair loss is all around my head…Not really on the sides and back though…

Are there any other men who have experienced this type of hair loss?

I’m a 23 year old male…
Hey guys…There have been some excellent answers so far…

I’m convinced its due to my eating habbits…

Also (in particular: Jeff of the 140 IQ ;-) , better_my_body)
If you would like to email me…you may do so on:
nicholas_paterakis@yahoo.com.au

I really apreciate your answers they were excellent…

I’m ashamed to say I don’t think I’ve been losing weight the proper way…I’ve been cutting alot of foods out of my diet…I never really ate fruits and vegetables before and I don’t now…I eat mostly at night before bed and don’t really eat breakfeast or very much for lunch….

I am however willing to change my habbits if it means regaining my health and hair…

But at the same time I want to be losing weight…

Reason for little to no weight loss?

Here is my problem. I have been overweight since I got in an accident when I was 3 and was in the hospital for about 6 months. I have had a continuing struggle with my weight. I have joined gyms, clubs and talked to personal trainers. I have talked to a doctor when I was younger (and had health insurance) and he said I "just need to push away from the table sooner). Now I am older and no health insurance. Now I am 26 and almost 400 pounds.

I have been working out for a month, eating 2000-2500 calories a day, and making sure to eat 3 main meals and 3 snacks. I drink at least a gallon of water a day. I workout 4-5 times a week and do the following routine.
Start with 8 minute warm up, then do 45-1 hour of high intensity weight training then finish with 35 minutes of Cardio. I burn 750 calories with the cardio and (as per the trainer there) at least 750-1000 with the high intensity weight train.
A few years ago I did the same work out routine and eating schedule. Over 8 months I lost maybe 20 pounds. That’s only 2.5 pounds a month, not really a lot. I have always been told that men lose weight a lot faster, but I do not.
Some background info on me, besides the accident…. I am a vegetarian, I eat plenty of protein, get more than enough fiber and all other vitamins from my food.
My question is, what is wrong with me? I have always been told it might be my Thyroid, but I dont know if thats it or not. I dont have health insurance but want to get skinnier and see some results from my workouts and eating habits. Any suggestions or opinions???
